Dr. Pedro Muel González

Hello and welcome. I am Dr Pedro Muel, a Specialist in Ophthalmology, and I would like to tell you a little more about my career, my international training and my approach to medical and surgical care.

I have more than 15 years of international experience across Spain, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Throughout this time, my commitment has always been the same: to provide high-quality Ophthalmic care with medical rigour, surgical precision and a warm, personal approach.

Specialisation and Areas of Practice

My work focuses primarily on Advanced Cataract Surgery and Oculoplastic Surgery.

In Cataract Surgery, I work with advanced intraocular lenses, including monofocal, multifocal and EDOF lenses, with the aim of improving vision and, in selected cases, reducing dependence on glasses.

In Oculoplastic Surgery, I treat functional and cosmetic conditions affecting the eyelids and periocular area, always seeking a balance between eye health, function and natural-looking results.

Training and Career in Spain

I trained as an Ophthalmic Surgeon in Bilbao between 2009 and 2013, where I developed the clinical and surgical foundations of my specialty.

Since then, I have continued to expand my training and experience at various international centres, with the aim of providing my patients with up-to-date, safe and personalised care.

Subspecialisation in Ireland

My interest in Oculoplastic Surgery led me to undertake a Fellowship in Oculoplastic and Orbital Surgery at the prestigious Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital in Dublin.

This period allowed me to further develop my expertise in the treatment of eyelid, orbital and periocular conditions from functional, reconstructive and aesthetic perspectives.

Experience in the United Kingdom

During my time in the United Kingdom, I worked as a Consultant and Director of the Cataract Service within the NHS at Mid Cheshire Hospitals.

I am currently Lead Consultant in Cataract Surgery within the Optegra network of clinics, where my surgical practice focuses on Advanced Cataract Surgery and premium intraocular lenses.

Areas of Expertise

My main areas of practice include Premium Cataract Surgery, the implantation of monofocal, multifocal and EDOF intraocular lenses, Oculoplastic Surgery and General Ophthalmology.

I also provide follow-up care for conditions such as glaucoma, blepharitis and other problems affecting overall eye health.

Commitment to Training and Humanitarian Medicine

Alongside my clinical and surgical practice, I am an accredited Educational Supervisor with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, allowing me to contribute to the training of future generations of Ophthalmic Surgeons.

I have also had the privilege of taking part in humanitarian missions in the Sahara, performing surgery for people with limited resources and helping to bring Ophthalmic care to those who need it most.

Medical Societies and Continuing Professional Development

Continuous professional development is an essential part of my practice. I am a member of several leading international scientific societies in the field, including:

• Royal College of Ophthalmologists (RCOphth).
• British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS).
• European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS).
